Slash Signs European Deal With Roadrunner Records

Tuesday • November 3,  2010   3:05:41 PM

Roadrunner Records has announced the signing of legendary Velvet Revolver/ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash for the forthcoming European release of his debut solo album, "Slash", in spring 2010.

"Slash" will see Roadrunner Records enter into a unique and innovative association with a U.K. media partner — the special-interest media group Future. In a brand new concept in record distribution the standard album release will be preceded by a "fan pack," in which the Roadrunner Records album will be bundled together with a highly collectable special issue of Future Publishing's Classic Rock magazine dedicated to Slash's career. This will be the first format of the album available anywhere in the world.

Slash will release a two-track CD single in Japan on November 11 containing the song "Sahara" (featuring singer Koshi Inaba of the Japanese hard rock duo B'Z) and a version of the GN'R classic "Paradise City" (featuring Cypress Hill and Fergie [a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson] of the Black Eyed Peas).

"Sahara" is expected to appear on Slash's forthcoming solo album. According to the guitarist, "the [record] is in its mixing stage and the mixes to this point sound great. We have recorded 18 songs, with one more I want to track." He added, "the record is still slated for a February/March release."

Hello all

11/3/2009 | 5:17:45 PM by Chris "you"

So g&r: it's OK for Axl to go out and tour and play all the old songs with a bunch of hired studio musicians and call it GNR? BUT it is not OK for Slash to have PC played on his album with other musicians?

Slash has just as much right as Axl, Duff, Izzy and Steven to go out and play old GNR songs as Axl does. You may not agree with it who he plays with but that does not mean he cant do it. Just as Axl in 2006/07 got up on stage every night and IMO ruined My Michelle by having Baz come out and scream his head off and ruin the song.

11/3/2009 | 6:21:29 PM by DJ

Yeah dude ok,but Axl plays with rock musicians,Slash what the hell going to do with pop/rap musicians?

SHAME!!! Slash seems that has nothing interest to do and just waiting for reunion someday...

11/3/2009 | 6:36:57 PM by FIDODIDO

hey bp, still alive and kicking i see...whats up?

11/3/2009 | 6:59:37 PM by SLASH IS THE BEST

Slash can do whatever he wants 'cause he wrote the best GNR songs. Axl just wrote the lyrics and stole the name for his solo projects.

Shame on you Axl Rose.

Good to see Slash is doing his own thing. I don't have a problem with him embracing different forms of music and singers from different genres. I'll gointo listening to it with an open mind...

Good to see Big Pat and FIDODIDO in the same thread, miss seeing some of the guys who were always posting when I discovered this site.

I wonder how the legalities of doing Paradise City worked.... Did Slash have to pay royalties in order to use it on his record? My understanding is that Axl owns Guns N' Roses and the rights to the material they recorded. I'm pretty sure I'd have to pay Axl if my band (I'm not in one, but...) covered any Guns tune (on record; in a live setting you can play anyone's stuff), regardless of who in Guns wrote it.

Is Slash gonna release PC as a single? That'd be funny.

11/3/2009 | 8:00:41 PM by CT

Axl does not own the masters (or the rights) to GN'R songs. The record label does. The record label decides the fate of every GN'R song. Typically speaking the artists can have a say but the end decision is that of the record label. That's why the greatest hits package was released. The band did not want it released, they even tried to sue the label to prevent it's release but failed because legally the label own the masters and/or rights to the GN'R catalogue.

And this is why Slash can re-record Paradise City with other artists because the record label gave him the OK to do so.

11/3/2009 | 8:02:59 PM by CT

...that being said, the artists who wrote the song still get a cut of the royalties.

11/3/2009 | 8:07:44 PM by Jay

Even funnier would be if VR re-recorded Appetite in it's entirety as their next album.

Is this what Axl's been doing for the last year? Playing Axis vs. Allies w/ lawyers to keep Slash from recording this song? I fuckin' love Axl to death, but he's no better than those he accuses of breaking the old Guns up and keeping him down for the last 15 years. It took five guys to make Guns as great as it was, and it took five guys to fuck it all up, as well.

11/3/2009 | 9:00:47 PM by Chris "you"

Umm DJ??????? Axl plays with rock musicians?????? 4tus has been touring with Rhianna for over a year... Ashba just did work with Neil Diamond! My point is not that Axl shouldnt work with Ashba or 4tus because of other musical work but Slash can work with others as well.

Also Axl only OWNS GNR THE NAME! He does not control the back catalog of music... IF PC is used in a commercial Izzy, SLash, Duff and Steven all get a cut. Royalties are paid to the song writers ONLY for example radio play.

What is this ? Snakepit 4?

11/3/2009 | 10:23:06 PM by JSWampler67

haha - I remember Slash and Cyprus Hill doing PC on some new years eve show. Honestly, I thought it sounded horrible, but a lot of ppl did like it.

That being said, I question whether this is Slash doing something he genuinely wants to do, or if it's a "fuck you" directed towards Axl.

Seriously, I'd love to see those guys locked into a room filled with weapons (Thunderdome???) so that they could go at it.

Something tells me, though, they might wind up just slapping at each other and crying a lot. Sad to admit it, as much as I'm an Axl supporter, I can't help but wonder if both of these guys are just little bitches that can whine and complain, but can't fight for shit.

11/4/2009 | 1:49:40 AM by Greg

I don't think PC is gonna be on his actual album....just a b-side to the japanese single.

11/4/2009 | 7:47:04 AM by SWOC

So this is a battle which should shows who is Axl and who is Slash Fan. To be honest, I'd prefer cookies with hot chocolate, heh. We don't need theirs "Civil War" LOL

By the way, I like PC version feat. Cypress Hill. Slash and his performance to playing this song live are still on the highest level.

HEY SLASH,

you make a solo album. OK it took more years than CHINESE DEMOCRACY, but I DONīT CARE!

Saw you with GUNS in 1991 and 1992 in Germany and it was great, but today and I live today, I realy donīt care about your FERGIE-PROJECTS!!!!
Wish you the best...........

Chris "you": you are a loser cunt if you dont see the difference...fucking moron...are yo uthat retarded you can make the comparison of people who play for axl playing with someone else on the side and actually having fergie on your fucking record...you make me fucking sick

11/4/2009 | 2:22:44 PM by Chris "you"

J- I have to laugh at you my friend... I was not getting personal... but I applaud your passion for Axl: Hey man I love Axl too I'm flying from F-ing FL to see Nu-Guns in Toronto:

BTW: 4tus has played on many artist's album that are not considered rock... Artist like Pink and Fiona Apple. Just checkout his website. I love Richard 4tus think he's a stand up guy and a great player. All I was saying is Slash can with who the hell he wants just as Axl does.

11/4/2009 | 2:26:48 PM by Chris "you"

Oh I almost forgot 4tus played on 'N Sync's "Celebrity" album... So do you really need any more J??? Thanks again J for the intelligent banter can't wait to see what witty comments you come up with again? Maybe next time I'll make you PUKE!

11/4/2009 | 3:35:19 PM by GnRLIARS

@ Chris "you"

Its nice to see others post here with the same opinion. Err wait, a well though out opinion. I don't understand why Slash as a professional Guitar player wouldn't want to explore other genres of music. PC is a song he wrote, maybe one day in the studio he thought it would sound good if he did "this" or "that" This is what the guy does for a living. Oh and everything I just said goes for Axl as well. I said before in a previous post, look at what Axl did to SCOM in the movie Big Daddy. Listen as the final credits are rolling. Do I like the version? No, but do i bash Axl for doing it? No. Its his song, he can do what he wants.

11/4/2009 | 4:00:46 PM by J

Some schmuck in Axl's hired gun band playing with Rhianna is not even remotely close to Slash doing an Appetite some with fucking Fergie. this aint about liking Axl or not...it's about fucking logic idiot. it's fucking apples and oranges...these things are the same to you?

big big stage for gnr tour..orchestra perhaps? thumbs up!!! :))

11/4/2009 | 4:03:33 PM by CT

Chris "you", you handled that tool brilliantly! Good on you man.

11/4/2009 | 4:30:11 PM by Chris "you"

New gnr: That stage set up does look pretty freakin cool!

11/4/2009 | 4:36:23 PM by GnRLIARS

@ J

what exactly is logic? Apples and Oranges?

Its Exactly the same thing.
Where is your logic? Please explain.

11/4/2009 | 6:36:17 PM by Jay

If your olfactory senses took a shit, there would be little difference aside from texture between apples and oranges. I myself prefer the Mustang vs. Camaro comparison logic. Camaro drivers are pussies. 2001 GT w/ mods; 2 Corvettes and several imports on the Confirmed Kills list, and still can't find a Z28 with the balls to take a try at me.

And no, none of the preceding was intended to make sense or be otherwise relevant. But then again, it seems like about half of the people posting here rarely do either of those two things, so I guess that makes me the president of that club.

@Chris"you"- Knowing that Ashba worked with Neil Diamond just scored him another cool point on my board. Although I'm not really a fan of his (some of his old, old stuff is cool though), the guy's a fucking legend. Thanks for the fun fact.

11/4/2009 | 6:44:56 PM by Jay

Cool stage setup. Hopefully when or if they make it to L.A. I can snag a spot close to one of the "ego ramps".
