These Days of Tattoos And Roses

Saturday • May 1,  2010   7:35:23 PM   (CEST)

TATTOOED rock and rollers overtook Gordon Ramsay's plush new maze restaurant yesterday to plug the new music channel MTV Classic. The press conference, hosted by Molly Meldrum, was launching tonight's relaunch of MTV in Australia - the channel is returning to its original format, after being overrun with reality TV shows in recent years.

Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, arguably the greatest rock guitarist of the last 25 years, talked up his favourite Aussie singers including Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale, who performs at tonight's launch, and Rose Tattoo's Angry Anderson, who will join Slash on Rose Tattoo's classic Nice Boys Don't Play Rock'n'Roll, which Guns N' Roses used to cover.

Slash Says GN'R Purists Take His Music 'Too Seriously'

Wednesday • April 28,  2010   10:07:42 PM   (CEST)

When it came time to decide on a bonus track for his eponymous debut album, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash decided to include a slowed-down, hip-hop version of his former band's 1988 Top 10 single 'Paradise City' featuring the unexpected tandem of Cypress Hill and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas.

"I've been playing 'Paradise City' with Cypress Hill since 2002 -- I just love the way they do the verses -- and we always have somebody come up and do the chorus," Slash explains to Spinner of the collaboration's genesis. "I always said, 'one of these days, we've got to record this' and here we were, seven years later.

"I had the Cypress Hill guys come down [to the studio] and I'd just done 'Beautiful Dangerous' with Fergie so I said, 'why don't you sing the chorus?' just for the hell of it."

Tommy Stinson: South American Tour 'Was A Success'

Tuesday • April 27,  2010   10:08:11 PM   (CEST)

Guns N' Roses bassist Tommy Stinson has issued the following update:

"All things considered, I'd say [Guns N' Roses'] South America[n tour] was a success! I have a few new scars, one less bass, one less favorite coat (damn thieving baggage handlers!), a few less brain cells, and a new appreciation for Cipro.

"I have seen a lot of beautiful places and people on this tour, and only a few not-so-much.

"The shows were a lot of fun.

"We played to a lot more of you than I expected we would.

The 20 Most Controversial Songs Of All Time

Monday • April 26,  2010   2:31:43 AM   (CEST)

Songs by Guns N’ Roses and Eminem have made it into Gigwise’s countdown of the 20 Most Controversial Songs Of All Time. Each song qualified for the countdown on account of lyrical content, and not their accompanying music video.

Click here to see and listen to each track in Gigwise’s round-up of The 20 Most Controversial Songs Of All Time now.

19. Guns N Roses': 'Used To Love Her' – Just like The Smiths' 'Girlfriend In A Coma', the upbeat tune of Guns N' Roses' 1988 acoustic track starkly contrasts to its gritty content. Bluesy yet pop, the murderous track centres on the lines “I used to love her, but I had to kill her” and “I had to put her six feet under but I can still hear her complain.” Axl Rose insisted the track was merely a joke, but this did little to thwart a barrage of perhaps understandable complaints from females.

Photos of Axl Rose at Hotel in New York City

Thursday • April 22,  2010   4:19:42 PM   (CEST)

Looks like Axl Rose has spent one too many days in the Paradise City.

Sporting a handlebar mustache and a wide-brimmed fedora, the 48-year-old former Guns N’ Roses frontman looked far from bandana-wearing rocker of his 80s heyday while leaving a hotel in New York City on Thursday (April 22).

Axl is back stateside after a concert gig in Lima, Peru last month where he reportedly threatened to walk offstage after fans threw objects at him.

Rapper B-Real of Cypress Hill spoke with Elliot Levin of the New York Hard Rock Examiner yesterday in the EMI Records artist lounge, hours before his show at SOB's in Brooklyn.  Watch the video for B-Real's thoughts on his metalhead roots, Guns N' Ross, The Simpsons, and non-medicinal marijuana.

Also, see below for a full transcript of B-Real's take on new frontmen in rock bands such as Black Sabbath and Alice in Chains.

"...No, I mean look. I liked Guns N’ Roses in the old form. Right now they’re just Guns. Or actually they’re just Roses, no guns. Til he puts the rest of the guys back there that sh*t is not Guns N’ Roses just cause he owns the name, means nothing..."

Angry Anderson, Slash Reunite In Rose Tribute

Thursday • April 15,  2010   4:35:19 PM   (CEST)

Australian rocker Angry Anderson will reunite on stage with Guns N' Roses legend Slash after 18 years, to perform a Rose Tattoo hit for the launch of MTV Classic.

The Rose Tattoo frontman and the US guitarist will come together to perform the song Nice Boys at the pay TV event in Melbourne on April 28.

Nice Boys is significant tune for the pair to perform as Guns 'N Roses covered it for their 1998 album Lies.

Slash has been a fan of the band since the early 1980s and Rose Tattoo supported Guns N' Roses on the Australian leg of their Use Your Illusion tour.

"Angry and I go way back to when GNR toured with Rose Tattoo in Australia back in 1992 - and had some great times," Slash said.
